If you happen upon Gateway Arch National Park on a late-summer weekend, you might hear the unmistakable groove of blues music drifting through the trees. Follow the rhythm to the North Gateway and you'll find something remarkable: neighbors greeting one another like old friends, visitors discovering St. Louis, and generations dancing to the music together.

Despite the heat of an August afternoon, lawn chairs fill the park, paddle fans keep the beat, and thousands of people become part of something bigger than themselves.

This is Blues at the Arch.

Since 2016, this free, end-of-summer tradition has brought tens of thousands together through the music that helped shape St. Louis. It’s where thousands of people from all walks of life find commonality and community, surrounded by a joyful celebration of music in one of the most iconic venues in the country.

There's no better place for that celebration.

Long before the Gateway Arch became an international icon, the Mississippi River carried commerce and culture up and down its shoreline. As musicians traveled north from the Deep South, St. Louis became a crossroads where the blues took root and shaped music as we know it today. It’s here along the riverfront that blues found a home and became part of the identity of St. Louis itself.

Each year, we honor that legacy by bringing the blues home to the riverfront.

There’s something magical about bringing thousands of fans back for Blues at the Arch every year. At Gateway Arch Park Foundation, we believe our Park should come alive with moments that connect people to one another, our shared history and this amazing city we call home. Because we believe the Arch belongs to everyone, Blues at the Arch is free and open to the public so that people can experience the joy and sense of belonging that happens when you come to this public space.

Blues at the Arch is just one way we honor our past and look to the future to ensure Gateway Arch National Park and the areas around it remain vibrant, welcoming, and inspiring for future generations.

And none of this happens by accident. It happens because people who believe in this space choose to invest in it.
