The Foundation first announced our intent to purchase the site formerly known as the Millennium Hotel in September 2024. At that time, the site had stood vacant for 10 years. This decision was inspired by fellow conservancy, Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and their purchase of an abandoned golf course bordering their park in 2021.
The purchase was finalized in July 2025, and the site is now back under local St. Louis ownership after more than two decades.
Demolition on the site began in November 2025, and will continue in phases over the next 2 years. This work represents a significant step toward preparing the site for future redevelopment in collaboration with The Cordish Companies.
In February 2025, we announced that The Cordish Companies had been selected to redevelop the former Millennium Hotel property following demolition.
Cordish's nearly $670 million preliminary plan integrates 1.3 million square feet of residential, office, commercial, cultural, and public spaces to create a vibrant, multifunctional destination. Key proposed elements include upscale residential, Class A office space, public spaces, an amphitheater, a food hall, event space, a potential home for Gateway Arch National Park’s archives, enhanced streetscapes, pedestrian-friendly spaces, landscaping, and art installations.
Renderings of Cordish's redevelopment plan can be accessed here.
