Transforming Downtown: Redeveloping the Millennium Hotel Site
A bold new chapter for St. Louis is underway.
Gateway Arch Park Foundation has officially closed on the purchase of the vacant Millennium Hotel property—a 4.2-acre site adjacent to Gateway Arch National Park—and is moving forward with an ambitious plan to reimagine this critical piece of downtown. This transformational redevelopment will breathe new life into a location that has stood empty since 2014, reconnecting the site with our city and its hometown national park, creating an iconic destination for residents and visitors alike.
In partnership with The Cordish Companies, the developer behind St. Louis’ own Ballpark Village, the redevelopment sets the stage for a $670 million mixed-use project. Early plans envision 1.3 million square feet of vibrant space featuring residential units, office space, restaurants and retail, cultural attractions, public spaces, and pedestrian-friendly streetscapes.
Demolition on the property began in November 2025, marking yet another step forward for this downtown development.
This project continues a legacy of civic vision and bold partnerships seen in the CityArchRiver Project, which revitalized the Arch grounds and surrounding public spaces in Downtown St. Louis. Now, that same spirit of stewardship is driving the future of the Millennium site.

Story-Collecting Initiative
With an eye on the future, the Foundation remains committed to preserving the stories that took place in and around the Arch grounds and has launched a story-collecting initiative to keep the memories of this cultural site alive. The Foundation encourages the community to share their memories of all iterations of this site so its impact can be felt by generations to come. Those interested can submit stories, photos, and oral testimonials through a form on our digital archive. For questions or comments on the story-collecting initiative, reach out to stories@archpark.org.
