Corporate Partner Spotlight: Spire
In May of this year, several Spire employees swapped their usual workday for something a little different: fresh air, good company, and their hands deep in the soil of St. Louis’ most iconic space.
Businesses from across the St. Louis region volunteer their time at Gateway Arch National Park throughout the spring, summer, and fall, and this day was no different. Spire employees spent a morning at the Arch grounds planting grass plugs to support the local ecosystem and keep the park thriving for the millions of visitors who walk these grounds each year. It was a day of service rooted in community pride, and the team brought plenty of that.
"We all came together and worked as a team to plant over 300 plants," said Hunter Behrens, Gas Pipeline Worker. "It was great work with a beautiful view."
For some, the day was a homecoming. "Working at the Arch took me back to my childhood," reflected Jason Stapleton, Sr. Coordinator of Damage Prevention. "I didn't realize how massive the grounds were until we were there that day. It's very important to keep our treasures preserved for our great city, as well as all visitors."
Field Ops Supervisor Kristin Wahl echoed that sentiment. "There's no better way to show pride in St. Louis than by contributing to such a meaningful place," she said. "Being part of that experience made the day even more special."
That pride in place is exactly what drives Spire's partnership with Gateway Arch Park Foundation. "As a company with more than 165 years of history and deep roots in St. Louis, Spire proudly supports the Gateway Arch Park Foundation," said Adam Woodard, EVP & Chief Financial Officer and Gateway Arch Park Foundation Board of Trustees member. "The Foundation plays a vital role in ensuring downtown St. Louis remains a welcoming, world-class destination."
For Spire, showing up goes far beyond a single morning in the park. In fact, their longstanding relationship with Gateway Arch Park Foundation includes philanthropy, beginning with the CityArchRiver Project, to ongoing support and continued volunteerism. It’s a true investment in the future of this park and the city it calls home. Spire made a transformational gift to the Foundation’s CityArchRiver Project in 2013, laying the groundwork for a long-term commitment to preserving and enhancing the Arch grounds. They have also been dedicated supporters of two of the Foundation’s signature events, Blues at the Arch Festival and Winterfest, helping make these beloved community traditions possible.
Most recently, Spire stepped forward as a lead gift partner in Above & Beyond, the Foundation’s newest campaign for Gateway Arch National Park. Their commitment is a testament to their belief in this space and Gateway Arch Park Foundation’s vision for its future.
We are grateful for Spire’s generosity, their energy, and their commitment to our mission.
