Ask anyone who grew up in St. Louis in the early 1960’s and odds are they have memories of the building of the Gateway Arch. Kathy and Lewis Manuel of East St. Louis, Illinois remember it well.

“I remember when I was in grade school, I could see the Arch being built from my classroom,” Kathy said. “I also remember seeing when the final piece was put in place! Lewis, my husband, remembers seeing the Arch from his home. He had a perfect view of the fireworks on the Fourth of July.”

These childhood memories, their involvement in the St. Louis region, and a little nudge from a family member were the impetus for the Manuels to join the Gateway Arch Park Foundation membership program at the Supporter level.

“We were curious about the renovations of the Arch grounds, and when we went to our first Blues at the Arch concert, we were very impressed with what we saw,” Kathy said. “My sister was the one who got me to join since Lewis and I frequently attend activities in the St. Louis area.”

As members at the Supporter level, the Manuels enjoy perks such as tram vouchers to the top of the Arch, parking passes for Kiener West Parking Garage, invitations to special events like the Members Tent at the first Blues at the Arch concert each year, and free entry into Kiener Cocktails. In addition to these benefits, their membership also provides support to the Gateway Arch National Park, ensuring the Arch and its surrounding area continues to be a welcoming, clean, and enjoyable destination for those near and far.

“It is a privilege to help build-up and maintain the Arch grounds,” Kathy said. “It is also a great way for families and friends to enjoy the outdoors. This is a place that can be enjoyed by all. We’re just excited that we were able to see it built from the beginning until now!”
