Celebrating History: Dred and Harriet Scott

Artboard 1
Dred and Harriet Scott

This week we celebrate Dred and Harriet Scott. On April 6, 1846, Dred and Harriet Scott filed suit against Irene Emerson for their freedom. Their landmark case played a major role in civil rights history, and was one of the most important cases ever tried in the United States. Their case was heard in the Old Courthouse in St. Louis, Missouri, and would go on to the Supreme Court. In 1857, the Supreme Court made the ruling to deny them of their freedom, and this would go on to start the Civil War.
