A BioBlitz is a period of biological surveying to record the living species within a designated area. It allows us to better understand what creatures are in our park at the time of the survey. It is interesting to learn what creatures use our very urban national park, but the project also has a larger significance. As human populations urbanize, gathering good data about what landscape features promote biodiversity in urban areas is more important than ever.
How does it work?
Through the iNaturalist app, use your cell phone to take pictures of birds, insects, arachnids, and other creatures you see throughout the park. No animal identification skills are needed. Your data will help the park, St. Louisans, and more know what creatures are where.
iNaturalist is an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information to help each other learn about nature.
